Who is behind SANA Therapy?

I'm Kimberley, the founder of SANA Therapy.

I'm a Bachelor qualified Counsellor and I am registered as a Level 2 Member of the Australian Counselling Association. This registration ensures I adhere to a strict code of ethics and engage in professional supervision and development to meet membership requirements. I also have a Diploma in Health Science (Psychology), lived experience, and a passion for all things mental health.

Out of session you can find me binging every show on Bravo, being told off for talking instead of burpee-ing at my morning Fitstop class, filling my camera roll with pics of my dog, or single handedly keeping food delivery companies in business. Balance, right?

What can you expect working with me?

I specialise in supporting the mental health of women in their 20's and 30's using a relaxed and honest approach. If you're looking for a therapist that values honesty, humour, and actually getting to the point to support you with burnout, grief, anxiety, depression, trauma or any kind of life transition, we might be a great fit.

I believe in offering a therapy experience that doesn't feel overly stuffy or clinical. Many people love a clinical approach, but for those who don't, it can feel really daunting. I aim to provide support that feels authentic, where clients can come exactly as they are.

Throughout my own personal therapy journey, I often found myself in rooms with middle aged men who couldn't understand the unique experiences I was having as a woman in the world. When I sought out female therapists instead, I ended up feeling judged every time I made a dark joke about my mental health (turns out the old school therapists don't find those very funny - oops).

I aim to make each session feel like a therapeutic yap with your best friend (if your best friend had a degree in turning yapping into growth). A friend isn't a true friend if they don't challenge you sometimes, so expect some gentle nudging into healthier coping mechanisms (aka not checking if he's seen your story every five seconds). I will always be honest with you, so I ask for the same from you - I promise there is nothing you can say that will shock or offend me (we can thank five years in law enforcement for that). Laughing and jokes (lame or dark) are also strongly encouraged.

What therapeutic modalities do I use?

I would definitely describe myself as a relational therapist that uses an integrative approach. An integrative therapist uses a flexible, individualised approach to therapy, drawing on various techniques and theories from different therapeutic models to best suit the client's needs and circumstances.

Here's some of my most utilised modalities:

 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Attachment Therapy

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Gestalt Therapy

Positive Psychology

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Schema Therapy
